Swim Family Stages

Parent & Child classes

Swim Baby/Tot (0-15 Months)

Swim Baby/Tot offers a gentle, relaxed introduction to the water promoting bonding, floating and skin to skin contact. Our expert teachers will guide you through supportive holds, sensory play and introduce vital safety skills, which we’re passionate about introducing at the earliest age, so our little ones always know how to be safe around water. As they get older, we start to introduce some action-packed activities, with lots of fun and splashing. Our babies and tots start to gain strength, and our activities and songs will build on this, as well as balance and co-ordination.

Swim Kid (15-30 Months)

Building on our Swim Tot activities we will see exciting developments such as becoming independent on woggles and holding onto the wall. This can be a period of big emotions for our toddlers, and we’ll look to adapt activities to each individual more than ever; so our Swim Kids feel heard and empowered to boost their confidence and love of swimming.

Swim Big Kid (2.5 years +)

We want to give our Big Kids as many opportunities as possible to explore and be independent through imaginative activities and songs. We will guide you to get the right balance of allowing freedom and knowing when to offer support and reassurance, to maximise your child’s confidence. Our activities will include important steps towards independent swimming such as exhaling, kicking, reaching and pushing from the wall to you and will also reinforce those vital water safety skills every week.

Let’s Swim 4 years +

Stage 1:

The focus of this class is on building confidence, as this is often the first time children are in the water without their parent. We will work on basic water safety skills and build strong foundations for independent swimming. We teach in the water with a maximum ratio of 4:1, so we can get to know each swimmer and offer individual feedback and support.

Stage 2:

Now confident with all aspects of Level 1, in Level 2 we start working towards swimming 5metres independently and lifting their head to breath. We perform more group activities but with just 4:1 ratio, each child will receive individual feedback and support to progress. We will become more hands off and we will rely less on woggles and floats as confidence soars, and we build stamina.

Stage 3:

We take time to really practise each of the main swimming strokes in Level 3, as well as working towards our 10m distance award. There will be a transition during this stage to some poolside teaching to prepare our swimmers for the next level, so an emphasis on water safety, discipline and independence.

Stage 4:

With our swimmers now confident in their own abilities we can start to really focus on technique for each stroke, we want our swimmers to swim beautifully and as effectively as possible. We will use the full pool space in different ways to build up stamina and work towards our 25m distance badge.
